science breakfast club: highlighting the union of science and art in lake mills
What would get 100 high school students out of bed for a 7:00am science and art seminar? Science Breakfast Club, hosted by the Lake Mills High School Science Department and sponsored by Water House Foods. Once each month during the 2010-2011 school year, an expert from the Lake Mills community spoke to LMHS students, talking about the impact that science and art have on our everyday lives. From energy efficient heating systems to native species ecology and landscape design, Science Breakfast Club explored the many intersections between art and science.
As part of Science Breakfast Club, Water House Foods sponsored a contest where students were challenged to select one of the Science Breakfast Club topics and produce a three-part detailed study of the topic. Emma Koeppel and Bill Mulligan teamed up to win this contest with their work, “The Sound of Music.” Their project expanded on the science of music talk on January 26, facilitated by LMHS alum Keith Hampton and given by UW-Madison Director of the School of Music, Dr. John Schaffer. Emma and Bill will receive their $500 prize on Wednesday, May 18.
